Danny A. Harris

Harris is the CIO of the U.S. Department of Education. He was been with the Department of Education for over 20 years, working in both IT and financial management. He currently serves on the Board of Advisors for the IT Department at the College of Southern Maryland, and he has been on this board since 1994. He is also an adjunct professor at his alma mater, Howard University, where he teaches coursework in Computer Technology. He previously taught at George Mason University.

Before he entered into the position of CIO in the fall of 2008, he served as the department’s Deputy CFO. Before serving as CFO, Harris was the Director of Financial Systems Operations in the Office of the CFO. The first position Harris held at the Department of Education was a computer analyst.

Harris graduated from North Carolina A&T State University with a bachelor’s degree in Communications. He later attended Howard University where he earned a Masters and PhD. in Organizational Management.
