Susan Swart

Swart is the CIO for the U.S. Department of State. She has held this position since February 2008 and currently is a member of the Senior Foreign Service and has a rank of Minister Counselor.

Before her role as CIO for the Department of State, Swart was the Deputy CIO for Business, Planning, and Customer Service and the Chief Knowledge Officer. Swart worked in the Foreign Service from 1989 to 2006 and she held various positions overseas, as well as in Washington. For example, one of the positions she held was Dean of the School of Applied Information Technology at the Foreign Service Institute.

Some of her other duties included: Information Management Officer in Cairo, Egypt, Office Director for Customer Service, Bureau of information Resource Management, Deputy Executive Director in the Bureau of East Asia and Pacific Affairs, Special Assistant in the Bureau of Administration, as well as various Information Management assignments in Caracas, Venezuela.

Swart graduated from National War College. She also attended Virginia Commonwealth University where she earned her undergraduate degree.
