Mark Borkowski has served as the assistant commissioner and component acquisition executive of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection‘s Office of Technology Innovation and Acquisition since 2010.

He is responsible for the execution of technology efforts and the management of acquisition programs at CBP.

He previously held the position of executive director at the Secure Border Initiative’s program executive office, where he provided oversight for the initiative’s implementation across the Department of Homeland Security.

Borkowski was also executive director for mission support at the U.S. Border Patrol headquarters, director for asset management at CBP’s Office of Air and Marine and program executive for NASA‘s Robotic Lunar Exploration Program and Hubble Space Telescope Robotic Servicing and De-orbit Mission.

At NASA, he has also worked as assistant deputy associate administrator for development programs at the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate and ESMD coordinator for the NASA Exploration Transportation Strategic Roadmap.

He is a DHS Level III certified program and acquisition manager and a 23-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, from which he retired in 2004 at the rank of colonel.
