The Department of the Navy has released a new memo that aims to outline differences in the responsibilities of the branch’s cybersecurity and information technology workforces, FCW reported Friday.
Sean Lyngaas writes the memo defines an IT professional’s function as one covering the operation and maintenance of IT networks.
The memo states that a cybersecurity professional works to defend and preserve data and networks and incorporate cybersecurity into the engineering and acquisition aspects of cyber systems, according to the report.
Workers in both the IT and cybersecurity sections should have foundational knowledge of operating systems and computing environments, FCW reports.
