President Barack Obama has nominated Maj. Gen. Joseph Osterman, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command commander, for a new assignment as deputy commander at U.S. Special Operations Command  for a promotion to the lieutenant general rank and an
The Defense Department said Tuesday Obama also designated Osterman for a promotion in rank to lieutenant general.
Osterman’s 33-year career includes roles such as Expeditionary Warfare School director, assistant division command for the 2nd and 1st Marine Division and was deployed to Afghanistan as 1st Marine Division commanding general.
He is a recipient of the Defense Superior Service Medal with gold star, Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars, the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star and the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star.
