Maj. Gen. James Dickinson, chief of staff of the U.S. Strategic Command, has been nominated to succeed the retiring Lt. Gen. David Mann as head of the U.S. Army’s Space and Missile Defense Command, waaytv.com reported Tuesday.

Jeff Martin writes Dickinson, who was also endorsed for promotion to the rank of lieutenant general, would also lead the Army Forces Strategic Command and the Joint Functional Component Command for Integrated Missile Defense once he receives Senate confirmation.

In his current role, Dickinson serves as principal adviser to STRATCOM commander and deputy chief and oversees the operations of the command staff through policy development and implementation.

He previously served as director for test at the Missile Defense Agency and deputy to the inspector general within the office of the Army secretary.

Dickinson joined the service branch in 1985 and held several leadership roles such as commanding general of the 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command in Texas and head of air and missile defense forces in the U.S. Pacific Command, U.S. European Command and U.S. Central Command in support of various missions.
