House OKs Stopgap Funding Bill in 326-96 Vote

1 min read

CongressHouse lawmakers voted 326-96 Thursday to pass a stopgap spending bill that would fund government operations through the end of April 2017, The Hill newspaper reported Thursday.

Sarah Ferris writes Republican leaders expect the bill to reach President Barack Obama’s desk in time to prevent a government shutdown on Saturday.

The Senate aims to vote on the legislation Friday.

The bill contains an extension of healthcare benefits for coal miners and their families but does not include retirement benefits which might delay the Senate’s approval of the spending bill, Ferris reported.
