Matthew Barrett: NIST to Issue Federal Cybersecurity Document Soon

1 min read

The National Institute of Standards and Technology is close to completing a document that seeks to guide federal agencies on how to implement and unify a cybersecurity framework that NIST developed for the private sector with the government’s cyber regulations, Nextgov reported Wednesday.

Joseph Marks writes Matthew Barrett, program manager for NIST’s cybersecurity framework, told reporters Wednesday that NIST expects to release the guidance within the next couple of months.

He said the NIST document Interagency Report 8170 has undergone seven revisions in the past year and that the agency aims to merge its “risk management documents into a singular approach for federal agencies.”

“What we’re trying to do is we’ll say, ‘Hey, those who want to augment their [Federal Information Security Management Act]-based practice with this cybersecurity framework thing that they’ve been hearing so much about, here’s a path to do so,’” Barrett added.
