President Donald Trump has set the average pay raise for federal civilian employees at 1.9 percent and the average salary increase for military personnel at 2.1 percent effective Jan. 1, 2018, Federal News Radio reported Thursday.

Trump wrote in a letter to Congress that the proposed pay raise for civilian employees includes a 1.4 percent across-the-board increase and 0.5 percent average locality pay hike.

He added that specific locality pay percentages for each locality pay area will be determined through an executive order before the first pay period of 2018.

The 1.9 percent raise for civilian workers is reflected in Trump’s full 2018 budget proposal and is lower than the 2.1 percent increase that former president Barack Obama authorized for 2017, the report noted.
