VA, HHS Partner to Address Healthcare Fraud Through Data Sharing, Analytics

1 min read

The Department of Health and Human Services has partnered with the Department of Veterans Affairs to share data, analytics tools and strategies in efforts to mitigate fraud, waste and abuse in government healthcare programs.

VA said Tuesday it also plans to invite experts from industry in April to demonstrate tools and methods to detect fraudulent, wasteful or otherwise improper claims.

Seema Verma, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, said that CMS intends to share expertise lessons learned to help eliminate wrongdoing in VA healthcare programs.

VA Secretary David Shulkin said the effort marks a step toward meeting the White House’s 10-point VA reform plan through collaboration with other federal agencies.

CMS has estimated that its program integrity efforts helped the department’s Medicare program generate $17 billion in fiscal 2015 savings.
