The U.S. Navy‘s Board of Inspection and Survey has completed a material evaluation of Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush in an effort to verify the ship’s preparedness for combat missions.
Congress mandated INSURV for all naval ships in intervals of five years or less, the service branch said Monday.
“The five-phase preparation plan allowed the crew to become more familiar with the INSURV standard and correct discrepancies prior to the final inspection,” said Lt. Cmdr. Winston Cotterell, INSURV coordinator for USS George H.W. Bush.
Inspectors evaluated the carrier against the service branch’s standards during the evaluation.
The ship is currently docked in Norfolk, Virginia, as it undergoes routine maintenance prior to a Maintenance Material Management Inspection.
