Gen. Ellen Pawlikowski, commander of the Air Force Materiel Command, is due to retire in September after three years in the position and four decades of military service.
Pawlikoski has led an 80,000-employee organization that works to design, develop, acquire, test, sustain, modernize and retire weapons systems for the Air Force since she took helm at AFMC in 2015, the service branch said Thursday.
She also held other leadership, technical management and staff positions during her military career.
She previously commanded the Space and Missile Systems Center, directed the acquisition management office for the assistant defense secretary for atomic energy and served as deputy assistant to the defense secretary for counterproliferation.
The Air Force has not yet appointed a successor to Pawlikoski, who plans to move to central Georgia upon retirement.
