Federal IT Vet Christine Calvosa Takes Permanent CIO Role at FCC

Federal technology expert Christine Calvosa has been appointed as the official chief information officer for the U.S. Federal Communications Commission. Calvosa has served as acting CIO for over a year. She joined FCC in 2014 from the Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, where she worked as chief technology officer, FCC said Friday. 

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said Calvosa managed information technology for the 28 GHz auction and led implementation of the commission’s updated National Broadband Map as acting FCC CIO. Calvosa also held the role of senior consultant for management oversight and IT across the federal government, including the departments of Defense, Treasury and Homeland Security. Pai said Calvosa’s appointment comes after Congress expanded the responsibilities of FCC’s CIO in 2018.  

“Calvosa is an ideal choice for this role,” the FCC chairman said. “[She] has demonstrated the ability to deliver on this agency’s complex information technology requirements.”
