The U.S. Air Force released the results of a cross-functional team effort testing approaches to gain and maintain superiority in the electromagnetic spectrum. USAF commenced the effort in January 2018 and announced the results in January 2019 during the Weapons and Tactics Conference at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, the service branch said Tuesday.
Brig. Gen. David Gaedecke, who led the cross-functional team, said USAF would require EMS enterprise management, mediums to access advanced EMS technologies and cultural emphasis on EMS awareness. Gaedecke serves as director of cyberspace operations and warfighter communications at USAF’s Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Cyber Effects Operations.
The service branch is working to establish an EMS-focused directorate, unify EMS services and implement an enterprise-wide EMS training program to satisfy the recommendations.
“Superiority in the electromagnetic spectrum is fundamental to the National Defense Strategy,” Gaedecke said.
