The federal government will host the Global City Teams Challenge/Smart and Secure Cities and Communities Expo on July 10 to 12 to demonstrate new technologies to address the challenges to public safety and services. The event at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., aims to gather municipal governments and their tech partners from across the world, DHS said Thursday.Â
Participants will present internet of things devices and networked computer systems that their communities use to improve rural health, agriculture, building management, public safety and transportation. GCTC/SC3 Expo is being led by components of the departments of Commerce and Homeland Security.Â
During the event, the agencies will provide an update on the new GCTC Smart Regions Collaborative. The effort intends to promote smart city discussions and projects to help communities create efficiencies and improve sustainability and quality of life for residents.
GCTC/SC3 Expo is supported by the State Department, NASA and nonprofit organizations Smart Regions Initiative, Technology Association of Oregon, Joint Venture Silicon Valley, the Telecommunications Industry Association, WeGO, FIWARE and Adaptable Security.Â
