Nazak Nikakhtar, acting undersecretary of industry and security, has announced she is stepping down from her role, Reuters reported Friday. The executive will return to her other position as assistant secretary of commerce for industry and analysis, a role through which she supports policy activities on trade and national security.
President Trump nominated Nikakhtar to serve as undersecretary of industry and security on a full time basis in April. She has been enacting this duty on an acting basis since February, leading the Bureau of Industry and Security within the Department of Commerce.
The BIS oversees technology exports with foreign firms such as Huawei Technologies and has been pursuing efforts on the trade conflict with China. Nikakhtar has been with the Department of Commerce for over a year.
