President Trump is talking with advisers regarding the administrationâs potential purchase of Greenland for resources and geopolitical reasons, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday. A fraction of Trumpâs advisers support the idea as a beneficial economic move, while some disagree with the president.
Some government officials say the autonomous Danish territory holds benefits to U.S. national security. The U.S. has access to Denmark-based military facilities such as Thule Air Base due to an old treaty between the two countries. However, Greenlandâs Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Twitter that the territory is not for sale, but open for business with regard to tourism and resources.
The presidentâs idea of purchasing Greenland comes before his Denmark visit scheduled for next month.
