Sethuraman Panchanathan, an executive-level officer at Arizona State University, has received President Donald Trump’s nomination to serve as director of the National Science Foundation.
Panchanathan currently contributes to ASU with his dual role as the university’s executive vice president and chief research and innovation officer, the White House said Thursday.
He formerly chaired the National Science Board’s committee on strategy and supported the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship as a member.
The engineering professional is also a fellow at multiple organizations such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the  American Association for the Advancement of Science.
NSF works to promote academic research in support of non-medical scientific and technical fields.
