Rear Adm. Danelle Barrett, deputy director of operations at the U.S. Cyber Command, will be assigned as director of the U.S. Navy‘s cybersecurity division, the Defense Department announced Wednesday.

Barrett was commissioned in 1989 and previously served in various operational tours at U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/Fifth Fleet as well as commander of Second Fleet, Carrier Strike Group Two, Multi-National Forces Iraq and Carrier Strike Group Twelve.

Her shore assignments have included service as allied commander at the Atlantic Systems Support Center in Norfolk, Virginia; chief of Naval Operations Task Force Web; commanding officer of Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Atlantic; chief of staff at the Navy Information Dominance Forces Command; and senior Navy fellow at the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association.

She has penned 25 articles during her military career and received personal awards such as a Naval Institute C4 writing award, Legion of Merit and a DoD Chief Information Officer Award.
