John Bergin: DoD Eyes Use of Blockchain Tech in Standard Parts Production

1 min read

The Defense Department aims to use additive manufacturing techniques in conjunction with  blockchain technology in efforts to address intellectual property challenges related to the production of military standard parts, GCN reported Monday.

John Bergin, business technology officer at DoD’s Office of the Chief Information Officer, told a defense contracting forum Friday the U.S. Navy‘s carriers can serve as a model for a use case of blockchain.

He added he believes the technology has the potential to help military organizations and industry partners to accelerate the supply chain process for “mil-spec” components.

“We are very excited about this approach, and we think it’s part of the acquisition front we’re trying to get to,” said Bergin, according to the report.
