The Senate voted 92-5 Tuesday to confirm Christopher Wray, a litigation partner at international law firm King & Spalding, as FBI director, the Washington Post reported Tuesday.
Wrayâs confirmation came nearly two months after President Donald Trump nominated him for the post following the dismissal of James Comey as FBI chief in May.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) said Tuesday that Wray told the panel âhe wonât condone tampering with investigations, and that he would resign rather than be unduly influenced in any manner.”
His ârecord of service, and his reputation, give us no reason to doubt him,â Grassley added.
Wray previously worked at the Justice Department as assistant attorney general of the departmentâs criminal division from 2003 to 2005.
He served as assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia between 1997 and 2001.
