The Department of Homeland Security has launched the sixth Cyber Storm exercise, where over 1,000 players aim to assess and enhance procedures that need to be taken to resolve a cyber incident, Federal News Radio reported Wednesday.
DHS has started working with players from the National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center, federal governments and private companies to evaluate the agency’s National Cyber Incident Response Plan during the exercise.
Jeanette Manfra, assistant secretary for cybersecurity and communications at DHS, stated that the activity aims to uncover the details of the plan and develop ways to exchange cyber threat information for the future.
DHS designed Cyber Storm VI to focus on the critical manufacturing, transportation and information technology sectors.
The report said the exercise participants will also test the department’s own internal communication mechanisms and observe how it coordinates with private sector, state and local partners and vice versa.
DHS conducted its last Cyber Storm activity in 2016, welcoming 100 organizations and over 1,200 registered players from different countries.
