Trump Announces U.S. Exit from Iran Nuclear Deal

1 min read

President Donald Trump announced Tuesday the U.S. government’s withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal signed in 2015.

Trump also signed a memorandum that seeks to reinstate nuclear-related economic sanctions on the Middle Eastern country, according to a transcript of his remarks published Tuesday.

“Any nation that helps Iran in its quest for nuclear weapons could also be strongly sanctioned by the United States,” he said.

The president said the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action agreement, also known as the Iran nuclear deal, failed to stop the country’s nuclear and ballistic missile development efforts and terrorist activities and resulted in a 40 percent increase in Iran’s military budget.

Trump noted that the U.S. will work with allies to find ways to address Iran’s ballistic missile threats and terrorist activities in the Middle East and worldwide.
