Federal technology expert Christine Calvosa has been appointed as the official chief information officer for the U.S. Federal Communications Commission. Calvosa has served as acting CIO for over a year. She joined FCC in 2014 from the Department of Agricultureâs Natural Resources Conservation Service, where she worked as chief technology officer, FCC said Friday.Â
FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said Calvosa managed information technology for the 28 GHz auction and led implementation of the commissionâs updated National Broadband Map as acting FCC CIO. Calvosa also held the role of senior consultant for management oversight and IT across the federal government, including the departments of Defense, Treasury and Homeland Security. Pai said Calvosaâs appointment comes after Congress expanded the responsibilities of FCCâs CIO in 2018. Â
âCalvosa is an ideal choice for this role,â the FCC chairman said. â[She] has demonstrated the ability to deliver on this agencyâs complex information technology requirements.â
